Spring turkey hunting is one of my favorite outdoor pursuits. Through many years turkey hunting, I’ve tried several different calls. Even though I own several different kinds/brands of calls, I consistently find myself grabbing my Bear Hollow Slate, Walnut Box, and 2 favorite mouth calls (The Batwing and Ghost Cut) before heading into the woods.

Board Of Game Commissioners To Meet On April 20-21

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Board of Game Commissioners will be meeting on Monday and Tuesday, April 20-21, at the agency’s Harrisburg headquarters, 2001 Elmerton Ave., just off the Progress Avenue exit of Interstate 81. The meetings will begin at 8:30 a.m. on both days.

Stocking Cancelled On Section 2 Of Chappel Fork In McKean County

Harrisburg, PA – Spring stocking on the lower section (Section 2) of Chappel Fork in McKean County has been cancelled due to lingering problems associated with an oil spill that occurred during the 2008 season, according to the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission (PFBC). A February survey of the stream showed that oil still remains in the water.

Game Commission Releases 2008-09 Deer Harvest Estimates

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Game Commission today reported that hunters harvested an estimated 335,850 deer in the state’s 2008-09 seasons. That’s up four percent from the previous seasons’ harvest of 323,070.

Twelve Guilty Of Illegal Deer In Elk County

JERSEY SHORE, Lycoming County – Pennsylvania Game Commission officials today announced that 12 individuals recently were found guilty or pled guilty to illegally killing or possessing eight deer in Elk County. The charges were heard by District Judge George A. King, of Johnsonburg, Elk County.

Deadline To Apply For Second Spring Gobbler Tag April 1

HARRISBURG – Pennsylvania hunters interested in applying for a second spring gobbler tag have until April 1, according to Game Commission Executive Director Carl G. Roe. Applications are available on page 38 of the 2008-09 Pennsylvania Digest of Hunting and Trapping Regulations, which is provided to each license buyer, or by going to the agency’s website (www.pgc.state.pa.us), and clicking on “Spring Turkey Tag Application” in center of the homepage.
