I took a walk last Saturday morning, in southern Butler county, to scout for turkey and deer and decided to take a rifle and a predator call. I never really hunted Coyotes before, so I just went to a familiar woods where I have seen a bunch of coyote tracks in the last couple of years.

I arrived in the general area I thought might be a decent place to call from and was looking for a place to sit down, when I caught some movement in the hollow below me. It stopped in some really thick stuff, all I could see was the tips of its black ears, I wasn’t even sure if it was a coyote.
Then it took off running again, I finally got a good look and realized what it was, so I whistled prettly loud 2 times, it stopped and turned broadside about 125 away. All I could see was a little more than the back half of it, aiming as far forward as I could, without hitting the tree, it was behind, I took a shot. It jumped up and took off running. She also “yipped” a couple of times. I thought I hit it, but was not 100% sure. I walked over and started looking around and ended up realizing, that indeed, I did. I tracked it for about 25 yards, it was pretty thick, and found it piled up next to a log. It was a 31 pound female. I never even got to take the call out of my pocket. I guess this is what you call beginners luck!
